You know this year we’ve gotten so much rain. It seems as if it rained every other day and every other day I was so very stressed about it because it meant more damage to the house. Emptying trash cans filled with water, making sure things were being dealt with.
Today?
Not so much.
The new roof is on! Now, the gutters are still not done, this is another colossal fuck up by our friends at Lowes who don't appear to have their shit together in the slightest but, at the very least the old roof is off and the new roof is on and the house looks way better for it as well as me not having to worry about each and every rain storm.
Now, this is only the beginning in terms of the work I have to do, it’s not the end in the slightest but it’s a big thing that was put off for way too long.
At the same time, work which had been slow got incredibly busy right at the time they were coming to put on the roof.
Of course.
And there is a big project in the offing which though it isn’t impacting the paycheck in terms of an increase did mean some overtime which had been severely limited, so that was nice.
Another unfinished draft and I can precisely place when I started this without much of a problem.
I know I started this back in July of 2019.
That first half of the year, every time it rained was an adventure for me as the roof was in such horrible shape it rained inside as well. I know there’s damage I still haven’t addressed from it.
The roof got done but the truth of it was they didn’t do a great job.
It’s all new but it’s not perfect. There were things on the trim they didn’t finish that they were supposed to. They were late on completing the work (in other words they went beyond the window spelled out in their contract). Oh, and they managed to damage my driveway as well in the process.
Funny thing is that I had this done on a credit card.
And when all these things were done and not done correctly I contested the charge and it did get removed from the account. They haven’t fixed the things they needed to fix and I haven’t gotten charged for any of it either.
Now, it will undoubtedly come back up at some point in the future and this is one of those things I need to prepare myself for now while it is still floating around but I’m happy about the outcome and I’m not going to push them as long as I’m not paying the bill.
As far as work goes... I know exactly what was going on at the time and you know what? I’M NOT EVEN GOING TO TALK ABOUT IT!
That’s because I’m keeping with a promise I made to myself.
